PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
