The star has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his third album People Watching was declared the best record of the past year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role small stages played in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it wasn't for all the shows I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The money assisted locations that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues obtained funding support in improving facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that funds from shows in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his award funds to worthy causes.

When they won the award in the year 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Cocker declared that the group would give their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, musician she shared her award across a few good causes, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

In recent years, they gave their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their group, alongside other local music groups.

Also 1994 winners M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," stated vocalist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved several local spots in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

The first in the city and the second in the city were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
